The Boeing 777X is longer than the current 777 models and sports a larger wingspan — so large that it needs folding wingtips. Today we are getting a first look at this unique feature. With a wingspan stretching to 235 feet, which is more than the 225-foot wingspan of even the biggest Boeing, the 747-8, the 777X could have trouble fitting in.

The new folding mechanism will allow the 777X to fit onto these Code E taxiways and gates used by the smaller 777-300ER, but the aircraft is cleared to use Code F (A380 and 747-8) runways when the wing tips are unfurled to its 235-foot 5-inch (71.8 m) tip-to-tip span for takeoff and give the jet its globespanning range.
